If you have ever traveled to or lived on the islands for any amount of time, you know that life on the islands is slower and more rich and full than in other parts of the world. The same can be said for the Canary Islands located in the tenerife south in Spain. The tenerife south where the Canary Islands are is a place of such beauty and relaxation that most natives say that you can go and plan on throwing out your watch There are beautiful places to live whether you decide to buy a house or look for long term lettings, high-end school, mountains, beaches, and so much more. If you are thinking about moving to the Canary Islands, there are a few things to know before getting there so that the transition is as easy as possible.

Find a place to live

Once you get to the Canary Islands, you will more than likely find it the easiest thing to rent a place before trying to jump right in and buy a house immediately. Renting or finding long term lettings will allow you to take your time and get to know the area, the neighbourhoods, and get settled. It is important to realise that since the area is so popular and is truly a piece of paradise on earth, your money is not going to go as far as it might in other places of the world, so you might not be able to find an apartment as big as you would somewhere else. However, if you can find an apartment that you can live in an appreciate for at least nine months to a year, then you will be able to integrate into the community, learn the language, and soak up the rays. Make sure you have a job or come to the Canary Islands with a certain amount saved up so that landlords are more likely to rent out to you. You can use the website Kuhamia.com to easily search among long term rentals here.

School options

If you have children that are going to be moving with you, then it is wise to look around and find a neighbourhood that is close to a good school district. If you are planning to stay for a long time or move their permanently, then you will want to get your kids enrolled in a school where they will be immersed in the culture and language and set up for success. This way they can be as fluent as possible in a shorter amount of time and make friends a lot easier.

What will the cost of living be like compared to how much you are making

Unfortunately, working wages in the Canary islands are not very high, and the unemployment is very low. However, the bright side of that is that the cost of living is not too high when it is right down at the beach. You can also cut costs by leaving windows open and getting fresh ocean breeze in there to keep your house cool and you can use outdoor lines to dry your clothes instead of needing a washer and dryer. Most people work in the tourism industry as tourists are a huge part of the population, you can find work in bars, sunscreen huts, hotels, etc. It is hard however to find a great paying job in the Canary Islands and there is a lot of competition. However, most people who move to the Canary Islands do not go there because they are looking for work, they go there to retire or spend their good years there and enjoy the beach.

Once you get to the Islands and get settled in a long-term apartment, get ready to love your new life. You will experience Spain in a way that you never have before, enjoy daily fabulous weather, lower cost of living, and amazing people. Once you get settled you will never look back!
